Football or Soccer

My  favourite sport is football. Football or soccer  is played by millions of people around the world.

History

Although during medieval times men used to play games with a ball soccer as we know now  was created in  1863 in England by the British Football Association.

Soccer Rules

Soccer is usually played on a field   or pitch .It measures around 115 yards in length by 75 yards in width. At either end are two goals posts which are accompanied by an 18 yard box that is mainly used for the use of penalty kicks. Penalty kicks are awarded for foul play by either the referee or his two assistants who are monitoring the match.. The assistant referees can also award offsides for the attacking team .

A Match

To  play  a match two teams  of 11 players  is needed. Their   aim is to score the most goals to win the soccer match. If  teams fails to score  or manage to score the same amount of goals then the game will end in a draw. However, in Cup competitions  when teams are  still level after 90 minutes, matches are carried into two 15 minute halves of extra time to find a winner. And, if this fails to suffice, the game will move to penalties until a team scores . A football match lasts 90 minutes divides in two terms of 45 minutes.

Soccer Kings

The English Premier League, Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A are the leading nations in world soccer .The most well known  football teams  are  Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Lyon, Ajax and Bayern Munich. The best footballers are Messi and Christiano Ronaldo.

World Cup

Every each 4 years a world cup is held. The first  World Cupp was  played in Uruguay in 1930 and the first team selection  to win the cup was Uruguay .In June 2010, South Africa hosted  the FIFA World Cup, the most prestigious event in the sport where 32 nations did  battle for the honor of being crowned world champions. Spain was the best team and Uruguay got the fourth position.
